3x3 - Successful 3x3 Workshop held for Antilles 3x3 Youth Tournament
May 31st, 2016

San Juan, Puerto Rico - (Antilles 3x3) - 3x3 Coordinators of the national basketball federations of Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Sint Maarten, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago visited the FIBA Americas office in San Juan, Puerto Rico to take part in a productive 3x3 Workshop and hold informative discussions which will help them in the staging of national qualifiers leading up the Antilles 3x3 International Youth Tournament.

The 3x3 workshop, which was given by the National Federation and Sports Manager of FIBA Americas, Nestor Rodriguez, has given the Coordinators the opportunity to learn more about the Antilles 3x3 project promoted by FIBA and the International Basketball Foundation (IBF), through which it seeks to institutionalize the 3x3, as a form of street basketball, to take it to the international scene in the Caribbean. In attendance was the CBC Vice President of Finance and Marketing, Patrick Haynes.

Executive Regional Director of FIBA in the Americas Alberto Garcia said, "in addition to the change of the new competition system to the senior men tournaments is the implementation of the 3x3 pillar which will help smaller countries, smaller countries will get a chance to showcase their athletes on the world stage through 3x3 basketball."

In essence, by the end of the workshop, each participant will be able to conduct, teach, and run a 3x3 FIBA endorsed event in their own countries. FIBA is promoting and funding a global three-on-three structure that will allow smaller countries to participate in the Olympics; in addition, FIBA expects the 3x3 format to have a significant impact on the development of basketball in countries that do not normally qualify to play in major international tournaments.
