The second day of competition in the U17 Women's Centrobasket had the debut of Team Mexico, a very competitive game between Virgin Islands and Bahamas, and another great performance from the host team.

PUR - U17 Women's Centrobasket: First day of competition

The U17 Women's Centrobasket, started today in the Fernando "Rube" Hernandez Coliseum of Gurabo. In the first game of te evening, Team Dominican Republic beat the Cayman Islands team, 113-42. The Dominicans dominated right from the start, winning the first half of the game, 54-25. Frabel Feliz was the best scorer of the game with 24 points for a Republica Dominicana squad that ended the game with a huge 125 shot attempts, thanks to 86 rebounds, 47 of which were on the offensive boards.

The Annual Bequia Basketball Tournament bounced off on Saturday July 9th at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Port Elizabeth, Bequia, with (14) Fourteen registered teams in three divisions, which includes the First, Second and Under 16.

2011 Caribbean Senior Men's & Women's Championships

The 2011 Caribbean Basketball Championships, hosted by The Bahamas Basketball Federation are scheduled to begin next week, showcasing the Caribbean’s elite men and women basketball players, ranging from hometown stars to NBA professionals. The Men’s Championship, featuring 10 teams, is scheduled from July 23rd – 29th and Women’s Championship, featuring 6 teams, from August 3rd -7th at the Kendall Isaac's Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.

BAR - Barbados Basketball/Track Star John Jones signs with Illinois State University

 John Jones didn’t become a household name in high school basketball during his one month in Chicago, and Illinois State can be thankful for that. Jones, an under-the-radar 6'-9", 260-lb forward from Barbados, has committed to Illinois State. He also considered Oklahoma and Illinois-Chicago. Jones, a Barbados native, had intended to reclassify himself as a Class of 2012 recruit and attend Powerhouse Prep after moving to Chicago in June, but the NCAA clearinghouse recently declared him a high school graduate after looking at his transcripts from Barbados and his one year at Howe Military School in Indiana.
